During menopause, a woman's ovaries gradually decrease their production of estrogen and progesterone, which are the hormones responsible for regulating the menstrual cycle and controlling ovulation. As a result, menstrual periods become irregular and eventually stop altogether. Menopause is confirmed when a woman has gone 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period.
The symptoms of menopause can vary widely among women, but common ones include hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, mood swings, difficulty sleeping, and changes in libido. Some women may experience these symptoms more severely than others.
While menopause marks the end of fertility, it does not signify the end of a woman's life or vitality. Many women continue to lead active, fulfilling lives after menopause.
